Just a thought.

I have gotten this crazy idea in my head that there may be a more effective way to teach God's word. I have tried to shake the idea and thought but that did not seem to work, so now I will chase it down and see what happens. The other morning, at 3:30 a.m., I was sniper shooting (Xbox 360) with a great cup of coffee. You know you have had those nights when you can't sleep for crap. Anyway, as I was playing the game, I was so engrossed in the game that I was mimicking the movements of the guy in the game. I realized this when I caught myself ducking down behind a chair in the theater room. As I crawled back into the seat the thought crossed my mind, "What if bible studies where just like the game?" Follow me. What if we were invited to be involved in an experience of learning God's word? I'm not talking about another study where we read a scripture, fill in the blanks, and cover 5 things that make us a better Christian. I'm talking about a journey that is directed by a facilitator. A journey that allows people to express emotions, desires, and thoughts about scripture. Let's start with just a simple discussion. The goal is simple. Get people to talk about the things of God. I believe that a life changing experience with God has three elements: Rational, Emotional, and Spiritual. The basis of these experiences are based off the socratic method and experiential learning. What is really crazy is that this is the same methods Jesus used to teach. So this is not a new idea. These studies will always ask three questions: What? So what? and Now What? So what do you think? Would you like to be part of an experience or a study like this? Go and have a meaningful discussion with someone this week.
